I was very fortunate to attend a weekend conference organised by Hay House with a number of fabulous speakers including Dr. Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Cheryl Richardson, Anita Moorjani, Dr. Brian Weiss, Dr. David Hamilton and the wonderful Angel Whisperer, Kyle Gray, just to name a few! That’s one of the benefits of living in London – the access one has to the wonderful array of teachers, conferences and workshops.
You would think that with a number of presenters discussing a range of topics that they would have a variety of messages or learnings to share. Yet there was one message they all shared in common, and that message was self-love.
As you may know, Louise Hay is one of the world’s leading advocates on self-love. She’s written several books on the subject, and her widely read book – You Can Heal Your Life – has now been turned into a movie. Louise is a woman who practices what she preaches. “When you throw love out in front of you, it bounces back to you two-fold” she says, so at 86 years old, she sends love to everything and everyone around her. She sends love to her stove. She sends love to her computer. She sends love to her phone. She sends love to people. She even sends love to herself (she keeps a small mirror in her bra and pulls it out to send herself love – seriously!).
Quantum physics now proves that as all particles are entwined, we’re all connected (this is termed entanglement). So while sending love to your stove may seem a little odd, it makes sense when you think that this innate object is actually made up of the same matter as you and I.
Cheryl Richardson, coach, author and presenter says “given we will be with ourselves for all of our life, it makes sense to make it the best relationship possible.” And that all starts with self-love.
Anita Moorjani talked about her near death experience and how she came back from the brink of death, healed of cancer. Her biggest message? Self-love. She writes in her book “Dying to be Me” that cherishing the self comes first, and caring for others is the inevitable outcome. Her NDE experience showed her that we are love – and that the entire universe is comprised of unconditional love. Love, is our very essence.
Dr. Wayne Dyer who has written over 40 books, believes that at our very basic essence we are God. When we move into higher consciousness (from our ego to our higher selves) our higher self is perfect and a fragment of God. And, God is love.
And finally Dr. David Hamilton spoke of how the evolution of consciousness is moving towards love. What ever we do, we must do it with kindness, as kindness has a ripple effect that affects others in our path. It makes others want to be kind (and loving) too.
While I know intellectually that loving who we are is very necessary as everything starts and ends with love, I’ve never had exercises to do that I could build into my daily life. Now I have however so I’ve been putting what I’ve learnt into practice over the last week. Every time I’ve left the house, I send love everywhere – to cars, to people, to trees. At home I’ve been sending love to my food, to my stove (yep, if Louise does it, I can try it), to my computer. I’ve also been paying careful attention to my thoughts and am repeating the words “I am love”. It has taken dedication as I’m less mindful when I’m busy, but I have been keeping up with a daily practice.
Before you think I’ve gone off the deep end, I have to tell you that something magical is happening. For one, I’ve felt incredibly joyful and happy. Strangers have been talking to me in the street – everyone has been incredibly friendly and nice. I have also been approached while on the tube to do a television commercial with John Freida – the hair man, whom I personally met. I haven’t heard if I will be picked yet, but in truth, it doesn’t matter. The fact that I got asked out of the blue says something in itself. I’ve also attracted two more clients which happened so easily and effortlessly.
Did all this magic happen over a number of weeks? No, it happened in ONE day. Yes you heard that right. One day.
So I’m a convert. This self-love business really works. What’s wonderful isn’t what has come back to me, but actually how I feel. I feel different. I feel really good. I also feel more open and connected.
Why don’t you try it out for yourself? Try these two things below and experiment. I bet you might be surprised by the results, just as I was.
Exercises – Not of the physical kind…
- Make a conscious effort to send love out in front of you as soon as you wake up. So, send your bed love, send your shower love, send your first coffee of the morning love, send your body love as you’re getting dressed, send everyone on the tube or on the motorway love. Imagine you’re sending everything and everyone who comes into your path love.
- Repeat (in your head so no one hears you and thinks you’re barking mad) “I am love”. Really believe this. Imagine that you are a big ball of juicy, sweet love. Smiling at the same time helps
On a serious note, the truth is that we can’t truly love others, until we have learnt to love ourselves, otherwise we’re not being fully authentic. Self-love takes dedication as I am observing right this moment.
Try the exercises for yourself – just for two days – and see what happens. Let me know if something changes in your world as I’d love to hear about it.
